NEW DELHI: Potential rivals to Bajaj Auto's ambitious quadricycle foray are seeking time from the government to develop competing products to ensure that there is no monopoly of a single player and the market remains competitive.

Italy's Piaggio, which makes quadricycles in Europe, has said other companies should also be given "adequate time" to develop suitable products for India and there should be no haste in giving a go-ahead to the four-wheeled transport vehicles as the government frames rules for their rollout.

Even homegrown Mahindra & Mahindra, which is also studying the segment, has said the rule-making for quadricycles should be based on "merit" and "not to accommodate specific-existing products".
