CHENNAI: Ashok Leyland, part of the Hinduja Group, launched Stile, its multipurpose vehicle in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, on Tuesday, entering the passenger vehicle segment in India. The product, developed by a joint venture (JV) between Ashok Leyland and Nissan-Renault Alliance, is the second product of the JV after Dost, a 1.5-tonne LCV which was launched in September 2011.
The Stile is a multi purpose 'people mover' in the LCV segment, said V Sumantran, vice chairman of Ashok Leyland. The product, which is similar to Nissan's multi utility vehicle Evalia, targets commercial users who would like to use the passenger cars as ambulances, taxis or courier vans. Stile will be manufactured at Nissan's manufacturing unit in Oragadam.
Going forward too, the two companies plan to launch a range of products in the LCV segment under both badges Ashok Leyland and Nissan. "Though they might play in the same segment, the products will be targeting different customers, will have differentiated features and will be in different price points," Carlos Ghosn, CEO, Nissan Renault Alliance said. Slated for launch this year are Ashok Leyland's Partner, and N-truck, and variants of Dost and Stile.
