GURGAON: Heavy rain and strong winds lashed the city bringing it to a grinding halt on Friday. It being a working day, commuters had a hard time navigating the roads in major parts of the city, which were all water logged leading to traffic snarls.

The rain which started pouring from noon one of the heaviest the city has witnessed so far this season, however, was a welcome change for residents after days of heat.

Following the rains, the sky remained cloudy all day and the temperature came down to a soothing 28 degrees celsius. The meteorological department has predicted more rain and thunder storms in the coming days.

A mix of cloudy and clear skies with a few showers along with a thunderstorm of 7 to 13 mm is expected.

The rain led to water logging of the roads, forcing both pedestrians and commuters wade through dirty muck as water from overflowing drain spilled onto the streets.

Most affected were the vehicle owners as at places traffic continued to move at snail's pace.

Bumper to bumper traffic was seen at major city roads and intersections such as MG road, IFFCO Chowk, New railway road, Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Bus stand, Sector-56, Sector 15, Golf course road and civil hospital road. Some areas even witnessed jams for over two hours.

"My umbrella flew away due to strong lashing winds, I was out to buy vegetables and other grocery items, but now I need to wait under this tree till it stops completely, lest I get drenched," said Anita, a homemaker stuck at Kendriya Vihar.

"Though this rain is definitely a big respite from the scorching heat, this sudden downpour has interrupted the traffic severely. It is a major challenge especially when going out for a meeting or going home from office," said Aarti, who was caught in a traffic jam near IFFCO Chowk while on her way to office.

For most residents the fall out of the rain was too much to bear with water logging of roads being the major complaint.
