NAGPUR: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently posted a notification on its website which asks non-banking finance companies ( NBFCs), to engage only those telemarketers who are registered in lines with the guidelines issued by the telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI). Such agencies have to get registered with TRAI from time to time to carry out their business of promotional and telemarketing activities. The RBI has stressed that these guidelines should be strictly followed.
This is the second time that a notice has been issued to the NBFCs by the RBI on the same subject. The entities were advised to employ only those sales agencies or call centres which have been registered as telemarketers with the department of telecommunication (DoT), as per the regulations of the telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI) issued 2007 for the job of soliciting or promoting any commercial transactions. According to the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations 2010, of TRAI, any person involved in sending commercial communications has to get registered as a telemarketer. It has, however been brought to RBI's notice that many of the financial institutions are engaging telemarketerswho are not registered. These agencies are also there franchisee at times. These unregisteredtelemarketers are using the normal telephone connections for making commercial calls to the prospective. This has led to a lot of complaints by the customers.
