PITHAMPUR: Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV) plans to invest Rs 1200 crore in its Pithampur facility by next year to meet the requirements of ongoing projects like engine plant, bus body plant and new products, and also for capacity expansion. However, it has already made an investment of Rs 253 crore in the unit.

Announcing the investment plans, VECV CEO Vinod Aggarwal said that his company will manufacture Euro VI-compliant base engines for automotive requirements of Volvo group globally. The Euro VI-compliant diesel base engines will be supplied to Volvo group plant in Venissieux, France, where these will be assembled to cater to global requirements.

The engine manufacturing plant, which has a capacity of 25,000 units per annum, will see its production capacity increased to 1,00,000 units per annum within next couple of years, with an additional investment of Rs 125 crore.
