RANCHI: All eyes were on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Hummer and the clouds overhead on Saturday, the eve of the first Champions League Twenty20 tie here.
The Chennai Super Kings team bus, led by captain Dhoni's eye-catching car, came to the stadium on time for a serious practice session, but the weather once again let them down. There were clouds all around as the Super Kings alighted from the bus and even before they could unzip their kits, it started raining.
It was a light shower even though the clouds threatened a deluge. However, it was enough to ensure the two-time Indian Premier League champions went into Sunday's campaign opener against Titans on the back of a light practice session, what with bowlers curtailing run-ups on a wet ground.
That is something the home favourites would not like, given that many of their players are coming off a break. Starting such a short tournament against a strong team like Titans, the last thing you want is lack of practice and that is exactly what Dhoni's city has offered his team.
CSK coach Stephen Fleming admitted that it is a cause for worry, saying, "There is some frustration in the ranks because of the rain. We couldn't have enough practice and probably are a bit underdone." The pleasure of being driven across the city in captain's Hummer in the last few days did not seem consolation enough.
