Restro review: Fat Cat’s Cafe
A delightful small European / Australian style cafe has just opened on the Salunke Vihar road. It is an odd location for such a pretty little eatery, unfortunately surrounded by not such nice looking shops.
Decor
There are two tables in the air conditioned cafe and two outside. The colours owner Melanie Andrade has chosen is sage green and white and the atmosphere certainly reminds me of anything you would see in an Australian suburb. It is quite delightful and I hear much of their decor is based on and brought from 'down under'. Fat Cat's is a fun name which basically denotes anyone who loves their food. Melanie started off with decadence desserts and has now taken the plunge to open an outlet of her own. Together with partner Sunil, they both work in the cafe all the time, serving customers themselves which of course makes all the difference.
Food
Melanie is well known for her desserts, but at Fat Cat's she also serves rolls with Goa sausage, chicken, tuna pesto and so on. Her bacon and cheese and mushroom and spinach quiches are good. We also had the Texas bake special of the day — a large dish of baked bread, bacon and cheese. Not for weight watchers! Do try her chicken lasagna if it is on the chalk board that day - quite outstanding! You must leave room for dessert. The ultimate chocolate cake is one of the best I have had. Also on offer is the baked cheesecake, white chocolate truffle cake, molten chocolate pudding, carrot cake and a variety of brownies.
The muffins and cupcakes don't look as glamourous as some of the other home made bakers' in the market, but taste good nevertheless. Fat Cat's Cafe is a lovely local place to hang out if you live in the Salunke Vihar area. They have books and magazines which they encourage you to read and borrow and their heart is certainly in the right place.
Plus & minus: A small menu of home-made goodies which will hopefully grow. Better
location might help.
