Rajasthan Royals bowler Vikramjeet Malik celebrates after taking the wicket of Smith during the CLT20 match against Mumbai Indians.
NEW DELHI: Late batting surge by skipper Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard helped Mumbai Indians post 142/7 against Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural match of the Champions League T20 in Jaipur.
Pollard (42 off 36) and Rohit (44 off 37) stitched a decent 52-run partnership for the fifth wicket at a time when the Mumbai Indians were jolted by the Rajasthan Royals pacers.
Vikramjeet Malik started the party for Rajasthan when he dismissed Mumbai Indians opener Dwayne Smith and Dinesh Karthik in the second and sixth over respectively.
Malik first caught Smith (9) plumb before the right-arm medium pacer knocked out the stumps of wicketkeeper Karthik (2).
Soon after, Stuart Binny got the prized scalp of the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar (15) when the senior India batsman got a wicked outside edge that was taken comfortably by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.
Mumbai then lost Ambati Rayudu when a mix-up between him and Rohit led to the former being run out for just 3 runs.
However that brought Pollard to the crease, who along with Rohit revived the Mumbai innings before the skipper was caught behind comfortably by Samson off the bowling of Shane Watson.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals captain Rahul Dravid won the toss and decided to bowl following an initial delay of 15 minutes due to a wet outfield.
