5 ways to thicken your eyelashes
5 ways to thicken your eyelashes
Eyelashes frame our eyes, yet we rarely pay much attention to them. However, a new trend is emerging where women are increasingly concerned about the strength, length and thickness of their lashes. Dermatologist Dr Kiran Lohia, MD, also a Healthmeup expert tells us how we can get those lovely Sleeping Beauty lashes.

Always wash off your eye make up
While it may be tempting to leave our eye make up on after a long night, this habit can damage your lashes and the sensitive skin around your eyes. This is because the eyelashes become brittle and more prone to damage, as well as irritate the surrounding area. So, use a gentle make up remover to get rid of the gunk and make sure you don't aggressively rub, pull or abrade your eyelashes in the process.

Give your lashes a breather
Eyelash curlers, lash extensions and excessive products can be very taxing to your eyelashes. They cause undue damage and stress, resulting in breakage and hair loss. So, give your lashes a break by avoiding these toxic practices when you can. Remember, your eyelashes need to recover; so letting them breathe naturally can benefit your eyes in the long run.

Eat healthy
Your diet plays an important role in maintaining the health of your lashes. Vitamins like Biotin are highly important for hair growth, as well as essential amino acids. Amino acids are an integral part of the hair shaft, so protein deficiencies can often cause hair loss. Look for a multivitamin or for a vitamin specifically designed for hair growth. Make sure it contains biotin, and take it daily.

Stop rubbing your eyes
Most people rub their eyes, particularly when they feel sleepy, stressed, or their eyes feel itchy. While it may feel good at the time, this is a particularly nasty habit that can cause a multitude of problems, least of which is the loss of your eyelashes. The more you rub your eyes, the more your lashes will break and fall off, leaving you with stubby and thin eyelashes. So, always remember to keep your hands away from your eyes.

Look for prostaglandins
Recently, prostaglandins have been proven to be effective in increasing the length of your lashes. They take some time to work, but they are highly effective and have even been US FDA approved for the purpose of eyelash lengthening. So, ask your dermatologist about this prescription treatment to get your lashes looking naturally thick and luscious
