The pictures of Bollywood actors are put on the boxes to woo customers
With Diwali around the corner, firework stalls have brought out their innovative best on display. And among these, Bollywood star faces are reigning supreme on fire cracker boxes this festive season too.
"The pictures of Bollywood actors are put on the boxes to woo customers as the chances of a person buying fireworks packaged in such a manner are much higher," says K Bhatia, city-based fireworks distributor.
While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Preity Zinta were mass favourites last year, Katrina Kaif has grabbed top spot this year. The Ek Tha Tiger actress appears on several different products including sparklers, rocket shots and multi-coloured flower pots.
According to suppliers, any actress who is in news because of a hit film or a personal scandal makes it as a face of the crackers. Other popular stars include Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Asin, Bipasha Basuand Deepika Padukone. While one would have expected the Chennai Express diva to rule the roost this season, Altaf Dawoodani, a third generation wholesale fireworks distributor, observes, "Deepika will be big next Diwali because the packaging for fireworks is done in December."

Though there aren't many fireworks featuring male actors, some popular ones include Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh. Interestingly, this year, cricketers like MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag also feature on cracker boxes. Among the international celebs, the late Michael Jackson is still a favourite.
While the B-Town brigade attracts youngsters, children prefer to buy fireworks that have cartoon characters on display. Besides the usual suspects like Mr Bean and Mickey Mouse, this year, cartoon characters like Ben10, Chhota Bheem and Power Rangers are popular choices for kids' range of fireworks. With the prices ranging from 30 to 10,000, the most popular crackers this season are Jumbo 250 shots that come in vibrant patterns and colours.
