Scooters had 22.5% market share in the market for two-wheelers at the end of June.
COIMBATORE: Even as the motorcycle segment witnessed a 4% year-on-year (y-o-y) drop in sales in April-June, scooters continued to grow at a robust pace. The scooter segment recorded a 14.3% y-o-y growth during the quarter on the back of new launches from Honda, Hero, TVS and Suzuki.
The faster volume growth in scooters led to a 3% increase in its market share in the overall two-wheeler segment. Scooters had 22.5% market share in the market for two-wheelers at the end of June.
Scooter sales, which stood at 785591 units in April-June, have been registering good growth due to the increasing acceptability of gearless scooters, especially among women. Rising urbanisation, increasing proportion of working women and new launches is also aiding growth, analysts tracking the sector said. "We expect 13%-15% CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) in scooter volumes for the next three years," analysts at Prabhudas Lilladher said.
