NEW DELHI: Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr, who plays the titular character in the hit Iron Man series of films, is seen dancing to a Bollywood song in the latest HTC ad. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, which is making a major attempt to reinvent itself and regain lost market share in the booming smartphone market, recently roped in Downey Jr as its brand ambassador.
The company's latest advertisement has Downey Jr giving out creative options as to what all the acronym HTC can stand for. Among the options are terms like Hold This Cat, Hot Tea Catapult and Happy Telephone Company, as part of the company's idea of saying that the name HTC "is anything you want it to be."
While thinking up new ideas, Downey Jr asks one of the actors playingHTC officials to switch the music as he needs options. The song next played is the Bollywood tune RabbaRabba from the AmitabhBachchanstarrerAks, with the Iron Man actor doing a little jig along with the others in the advertisement.
HTC recently changed its slogan from Quietly Brilliant to Here's To Change and has increased its online marketing expenditure for 2013 by 250%,compared to last year. The traditional marketing budget of the Taiwanese manufacturer has also been increased by 100% for the same period. The company's chief marketing officer Benjamin Ho had earlier said it has had several great ideas but not publicized them enough. CEO Peter Chou also echoed Ho's sentiments
