Jumpsuits make for a great evening wear
Jumpsuits make for a great evening wear

For a hassle-free transition from the day to eveningwear, this is the best choice of the season

Jumpsuits. Cool and easy-to-wear. But be warned, not everyone can carry it off. If you have been working out rigorously and watching your calorie intake, then this is just what you need for a hassle-free day. What's more, you could slip into it as casual daywear or glam it up to suit the evening look. "Jumpsuits are comfortable and smart to carry. A fitted jumpsuit on a perfectly contoured body gives a slim, smart posture to your look," says ace designer Rocky S.

Overalls make a jump start
From workclothes worn by industrial workers to a chic fashion statement, overalls have come a long way. Available in varied styles, colours, prints and materials, experimentation is the word when it comes to this versatile onepiece. "From denim to traditional fabrics, like Benarasi katan, jumpsuits can me made out of a variety of materials. But one has to be tall and slim to carry it with elan," says designer Arnab Sengupta.

Work orders
Worn right, a jumpsuit can easily double as trendy workwear. "Slim to medium-sized women can carry off the jumpsuit best. Slip on the right shoes or a Roman sandal, put on a slim belt across the elastic line and a sling bag across the shoulders and you are set," advises fashion icon and celebrity stylist Achla Sachdev. To break the monotone of formals at work, opt for smart silhouettes sans the frills and ruffles. Solid colours and subtle prints work best for office wear. Keep the hairstyle fuss-free.

Going the right way
If you are not too comfortable with the unilook, slip on a jacket. Or try layering by slipping into a ganji in a contrast colour underneath the jumpsuit. Experiment with baloon cuts, a la Piggy Chops here, or sheer materials. For a cutesy look, a side braid will help flaunt the feminine contours of your face.

For a long day out with friends, there's nothing like a cheerful jumpsuit. "While wearing it as daywear accessorize it with a sleek neckpiece and flats. Neon colours are the best options for the season," advises Rocky. Go all guns blazing with wild prints and striking patterns. If the mood's casual, step up with a pair of wedge espadrilles, or a cute pair of flip flops. Add a tote and a pair of retro shades and watch your friends go green with envy. And if it's adventure on your plate today, just replace the wedges with sneakers and the tote with a back-pack.

Making the transition
To upgrade to evening wear, add loads of bling. Put on a broad metallic belt or a statement necklace, a stack of bangles or a pair of chandeliers. Slip into stiletto heeled pumps and add a clutch. Designer Agnimitra Paul, who has been making jumpsuits in khadi and dark colours, is giving them a tradition touch using Madhubani at the cuffs and pockets.

"Accessorize the jumpsuit interestingly to lift it from daywear to eveningwear. If nothing else, slip on a chiffon or georgette cape in bright neon colours for an evening out," she says. "Accessorize it with some beaded jewels that adorns your neckline, an embellished watch, and a high heel to add up to your posture," is Rocky's tip.
