Know everything about hair transplant

Dr A's Clinic provides effective hair restoration techniques including FUSE/ FUE and body hair transplants.

Many of the latest advances, including the use of the expanding needle concept in fue and the use of facial hair as an additional donor have been pioneered and freely shared by us with doctors worldwide. The clinic, its patients as well as live hair restoration surgeries have been shown a number of times on nationwide TV news programmes. Below are some frequently asked questions related to hair transplant.

How long does it take for transplanted hair to grow and what's the growth rate?
Once the transplanted hair begins to grow, it will continue to do so for a lifetime. The transplanted hair generally sheds within the first 2-6 weeks after the procedure as the roots enter a resting phase. Between 3-8 months, the transplanted roots start sprouting hair. It usually takes 10-12 months to see the full improvement in terms of density, as the hair continues to mature and thicken. Using hair strengthening products like Keratene, at least 2 to 3 weeks before transplant and from one week after hair transplant can hasten the re-growth of the transplanted hair, while at the same time help reduce further hair loss.

I am 22-years-old and have been wearing a hair weave for past 10 years. I have heard that hair transplants give real growing hair that keep growing and look natural. If I get a transplant done, I want to make sure people do not notice the transition from the hair system to hair transplant.
We have handled cases likes yours successfully. But for that we need to see you in person to devise the best strategy. When you go for the next servicing of the hair weave, visit us before fixing it back so that we can evaluate your hair and scalp and decide what sort of a hairline you wish to go for. Modern ultra refined hair transplants have helped many get rid of the wig/system. The transition from the wig to the hair transplant without others knowing needs some individual attention. As you are still young, with age you may lose more hair. Spending so many years under a hair system may have had its own effects on the scalp. You should get in touch with your doctor to try and prevent further hair loss and get information for maintaining a healthy scalp.

Is a hair transplant painful?
Hair transplant surgery is much less painful now, than it was in earlier times when larger sections of scalp were excised. Older methods of scalp reduction, flap transfer have mostly been replaced by ultra refined follicular unit hair transplants. The procedure itself is rendered painless by administration of local anesthetics. The patient can go back home the same day. In the strip FUHT method, pain killers are usually required for 5 to 6 days to reduce the pain due to the stitches in the scalp area. The more advanced stitch-less FUSE technique even does away with the need of any stitches. The donor hair roots are virtually plucked out when under the effect of anaesthesia. Since there are no knife cuts or stitches, there is no resultant pain even after the effect of the anaesthesia wears off.

I am worried about my hairfall on both sides of head. Please suggest to me how much hair will be required if I go for a hair transplant and the number of days it takes?
It seems that you are suffering from pattern hairloss/baldness. You can try medical measures to slow down your hairloss. Natural products like Keratene can be very helpful. Once your hairfall has slowed down, you can opt for a hair transplant. The duration of procedure depends upon the number of grafts, though it is usually possible as a single day procedure.

Free open house seminar - You can meet volunteer patients that have already got hair transplantation done. The seminar will be held today, between 11am to 1pm at our centre
