Syrian opposition alleges new atrocities by Assad

ISTANBUL: Syria's main opposition bloc says that the Syrian government has carried out more than 20 massacres during the holy month of Ramzan, killing hundreds of civilians.

The Western-backed Syrian National Coalition presented a report on Tuesday detailing the abuses that also alleged three recent uses of chemical weapons by President Bashar Assad's government. The report's findings, which also allege that civilians were targeted by ballistic missiles, executed and burned alive, could not be independently verified.

The coalition says it will deliver the report to head of the UN commission investigating human rights abuses in Syria.

The coalition's spokesman Louy Safi said they would cooperate with a United Nations team investigating allegation that chemical weapons were used in the country, but urged investigators to travel to areas beyond the government's control.
