Restaurant Review: Wok A Toque (Oriental)
It's sparkling new, and has decor elements one can expect in an Oriental food place.
Decor
Huge red and white ceiling lanterns, Chinese screens, nice seating arrangements, etc. Not exactly a part of the decor, but intriguing enough is the dim sum trolley. It trundles along, transporting those delights to every table with steam literally coming off them. And you can buy them by the piece. It's dimly lit and the nicely done interiors capture my interest till the food arrives, which is not very long.
Food
Wok A Toque has some really talented chefs working on the food. Each dish tastes just the way it is supposed to be. The sui mai are open dim sums, and are made using tapioca flour, rice flour and corn starch, not maida. They are delicious, and low on calories, with the goodness of veggies, chicken or prawn. I found the Vietnamese boh unique, with its soft noodles and veggies in a broth that was not too thick and gummy. The wasabi prawns are crisp on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside. Almost giving the main course a miss, as I had already eaten some water chestnuts honey pepper — again, irresistible — I give in to temptation and order the udon noodles, because I had heard it's their signature dish. One bite and I'm reaching for the next bite of these rice noodles tossed with oodles of veggies. For desserts, I first order the chocolate-coated lychee ferrero. Then, the coconut grove comes in a platter of four different desserts. The tender coconut water jelly, light and translucent, wins my taste buds over.
Plus & Minus
A lot of thought has gone into the planning of every aspect of the food. Nice decor.
