Mumbai: If air fares are any indication of demand, then the upcoming Independence Day weekend is just like any other weekend in August. Barring Goa, fares to other major destinations in the country have stayed grounded despite a four-day long weekend starting Independence Day on Thursday.
Flight tickets to Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and other popular destinations are low despite the long weekend and the proximity to the travel date.
A search on major travel portals showed the lowest return fare for Delhi on August 15 to be Rs 9,000. Round-trip fares to Kolkata, which is generally an expensive sector, are in the Rs 8,500-9,000 range.
